Of all the weapons available to believers, one is mentioned more in Scripture than almost any other. Yet it is often the most overlooked in daily spiritual warfare.
The blood of Jesus.
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Revelation 12:11, NKJV)
Notice the order. First, the blood. Then, the testimony. The blood comes first because without it, nothing else works.
What the Blood Accomplishes
The blood of Jesus is not a symbol. It is not a religious phrase. It is the actual payment for your sin and the legal foundation for your authority over the enemy.
This is what the blood does in spiritual warfare:
1. It silences the accuser.
The enemy’s primary weapon is accusation. He is the, “accuser of the brethren“, according to Revelation 12:10. He often points at your failures with condemnation and says, “You have no right to stand before God.”
The blood answers: “Paid in full.” And Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Christ, we have redemption, through His Blood.”
“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.” (Romans 8:33, NKJV)
2. It cleanses your conscience.
A guilty conscience has no authority. When you feel unworthy, you fight weakly. The blood removes that guilt so you can stand boldly, provided you are living righteously.
“How much more shall the blood of Christ… cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:14, NKJV)
3. It breaks every legal hold of the enemy.
The enemy only has rights where an open door of sin has not been dealt with. Repent and live righteously. We must bear fruits, worthy of repentance. So don’t give the enemy any room in your life. Then continue to plead the blood over your life, your family, and your home. This dismantles any legal rights, he had over you.
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7, NKJV)
Notice, submission to God comes before resisting the devil. Unfortunately many believers try to resist the devil without submitting to God and that’s exactly what he wants.
How to Plead the Blood in Battle
You do not need a formula. But here is something simple, practical and powerful:
When you sense an attack, be it fear, oppression, accusation or strange dreams, say this aloud:
“I cover myself, my family, my home, and my mind with the blood of Jesus. Every accusation is silenced. Every legal right of the enemy is revoked. I stand under the blood of Jesus Christ my Lord.”
Then go about your day. The blood does not need to be screamed out aloud in order to work. It only needs to be applied.
An Encouragement
Do not treat the blood as some magic potion. It is not a phrase you repeat to manipulate God. It is the foundation of your covenant with Him.
But do not neglect it either. Many believers fight battles that were already won at the cross. The enemy has already been defeated. The blood is the finished proof.
When you feel overwhelmed, simply say: “The blood of Jesus covers this.”
Then rest assured and believe that the battle belongs to the Lord.
